Nevada is known far and wide as a place where just about anything goes. It has a reputation as a state where the party never stops and the fun runs 24 hours a day. Because of this it may be surprising to learn that Nevada has not always been so free-wheeling on the issue of marijuana. It has only been since July of 2017 that Nevada has implemented a framework for the sale of recreational marijuana. Washoe County and Reno marijuana shops make up the second-largest market in Nevada following the Las Vegas area. Reno marijuana use for recreational purposes falls under certain regulations, as it does in the entire state. A person who is 21 or older can purchase and possess an ounce of marijuana (or 1/8 ounce of concentrated marijuana or marijuana edibles), but it is not legal to smoke or consume it in public. This means no lighting up at concerts or festivals or while camping on public lands. Most hotels and motels also prohibit the use of recreational marijuana. As with alcohol, it is illegal to drive while under the influence. Medical Dispensaries of Reno Marijuana
Medicinal marijuana dispensaries are relatively well established here, and the issue of its use for these purposes is a bit more straightforward. Legislation in 2013 paved the way for these businesses, and the first of the shops opened in the Truckee Meadows in 2015. To purchase Reno marijuana for medicinal use, a person must have a valid medical marijuana card. This applies both to Nevada residents and visitors to the Silver State alike.
