You might say that Wildcreek Golf Course in Sparks was designed with the golf tourist in mind, even though it has become a favorite of locals as well. The course was created as a project of the Reno-Sparks Convention and Visitors Authority and is still owned and operated by the tourism entity that is funded by hotel and motel room taxes. Designed by Brad Benz and Dick Phelps, it opened in 1980 and hosted three PGA Senior Tour events in its early years.
The course has six sets of tees stretching to a maximum of 7,047 yards from the tips down to 5,575 yards from the shortest women's tees. The layout meanders through rolling meadows with hillside elevation changes with numerous water hazards and other challenges. Variety is the name of the game at Wildcreek, and golfers will use every club in the bag during a round here. There is also a 9-hole Executive Par 3 Course that is an excellent choice for beginning golfers and juniors.
Greens fees are affordable with a range of weekday and weekend rates dependent upon tee time of day plus flat rates for the Executive Course. The course is open year-round, weather permitting. Lessons by PGA professionals are available, as are membership options including the Wildcreek Golf Club, Wildcreek Punch Pass and the Creek Club Discount Card.
Facilities include a driving range with 18 stations, chipping and putting greens and a full-service pro shop. Bogey's Bar & Grill offers a nice variety of breakfast, burger, sandwich and salad options plus a full bar. Bogey's also caters and has facilities for tournament groups, weddings, meetings and banquets, including the Creek Garden, Bogey Hall and the BBQ Pavilion.
