In this age of streaming TV shows and movies, trips to the movie theater are becoming more and more rare. But that’s all the more reason to enjoy them for what they are – a classic, retro experience that matches Reno’s Biggest Little City vibe. And whether you’re looking for the latest luxury theater experience or a classic drive-in, Reno has a wide variety of movie theaters to choose from.
Cinemark Century on Plumb Lane
Reno has two Cinemark Century theaters, with the one on Plumb Lane being in the more convenient, central location. A traditional theater with 3D and XD technology, Cinemark Century on Plumb Lane is known for serving beer and cocktails. If you want a classic, no-frills movie experience in central Reno, this is it.

Galaxy IMAX in Sparks
The main form of moviegoing that is able to complete with people’s big-screen TVs is the IMAX experience. Reno’s neighboring town, Sparks, has a Galaxy IMAX theater located in the large shopping complex where Scheels is.
For those unaware, the modern IMAX experience features an enormous curved screen, a wide range of surround sound, plush seats and every variety of refreshment imaginable. As a bonus, this theater is right by the Sparks Marina to stretch your legs after the show with lots of shopping and restaurants nearby.
Cinemark Century at Summit Sierra
Movie-going is not exactly cheap, so it should be a luxurious experience when you do go. The Cinemark Century at the Summit Sierra Mall in South Reno gives you the upscale feel you deserve when you go out for movie night.
The leather seats are extremely comfortable, the employees are polite and nice, and the snack bar is well-stocked and clean. Summit Sierra Mall is well-known for its high-end department stores and excellent restaurants. This is where you go if you want a high-quality, enjoyable movie experience.

West Wind El Rancho Drive In
If you want to try something unique and retro, it’s good to know that Reno is home to one of the nation’s 300-odd remaining drive-in theaters. West Wind El Rancho in Sparks is a fun, low-key establishment. Snacks and refreshments are abundant and affordable, as are the tickets themselves.
The movie theater screen may not live up to everyone’s HD-quality expectations in this day and age, but going to the drive-in is more about reliving the experience of outdoor movie watching than having the perfectly polished view of the screen. On summer and fall evenings, this is an exciting place to experience the splendor of the silver screen in the outdoors.
There’s something magical about going out to the movies that can’t be replicated at home. Give one of Reno’s theaters a try next time you are in a movie-watching mood!
