Visitors may be surprised to learn it, but locals know that there are more activities and programs in the Reno area than there are slot machines in a casino. In other words, there are a lot! The sources of all of these Reno activities are plentiful. Some come from the governmental entities at many different levels. These can include the Washoe County Libraries, and on any given day you might find an art exhibit, a story hour, a history presentation or more at one of their many locations. Other city, county and state facilities exist throughout Reno, and activities include offerings from 4H and the County Extension, the Nevada Department of Wildlife, Washoe County Parks and the Nevada System of Higher Education, including the University of Nevada and Truckee Meadows Community College. Reno activities are also offered by a wide range of private entities, whether volunteer groups or professionals who operate as a business. One thing you can be sure of, if there is an interest in a particular activity in the Truckee Meadows, someone is organizing an event around it, whether it involves something as formal as a commercial endeavor or is just a group of friends getting together who are happy to welcome new enthusiasts into the group.
Reno Activities for Young and Old
In the Truckee Meadows, programs can range from those designed for the adult crowd, such as dancing and wine or beer tasting, to those for the entire family, like building your own kite or hiking through the Arboretum. In fact, there is a growing number of Reno activities for both families with kids and for adults on their own as our population increases and more and more resources are devoted to improving the quality of our leisure and family time.
